Meet Betty

Betty is a 'Black Rock' , a hybrid laying hen.

and meet Red

Red is a 'Warren', another hybrid laying hen and the most commonly used laying chicken in the UK Commercial egg producing market.

I did get another hen, but my battery died after taking these, then i forgot , then it got dark.

I have a White Star or White Leghorn hybrid. People in the USA will know these chickens as they are a very popular commercial egg producer. They lay white eggs, which is a novelty in the UK as all ours are beige.

I have always wanted to keep a few chickens for their eggs and now i have 3!

These 3 should average around 900 eggs a year!

They are lovely chooks.I used to have some ex battery hens, the eggs were just wonderful
you'll know the 'warren' then. I was considering ex battery, but i fancied a couple of different varieties and the guy i found to buy from had so many to choose from. When i get more land i will definately take on some ex battery hens.
