Tail markings?

Is there any certain genes that cause bands on tails? ive got some mice who have dark tails but have a light band on them which i would like to work on breeding out. or is it just something random that pops up?

White parts on the tails of otherwise self coloured mice often belie the fact that there is a marked gene in there somewhere.

Also to add onto this, Ive hear white tail marking can be associated with what are called k-factors, these determine how much white is on a mouse especially for spotted varieties. I think you can have k factors(or white tail tips/markings phenotypically) on a mouse that doesnt carry spotting though.
that makes sence the farther is broked, mum siamese.
thanks, ill see how the next generations come out (got some pinkies from then now) and any i keep with it keep breeding them back to solid tails.
