Hi..

I have a male and 3 female mice which I was hoping to breed

I just put the male in with the females for the first time, and the smallest female mouse (12 weeks old) started following the male (definatly a male!) around, and then they faced eachother and there was some fairly loud squeaking and a little "scrap"? :? I have no idea why this happened, so I put the male back in his cage, and i'm not really sure what to do now.
Any help/advice would be appreciated, thanks

Don't worry; it's just territorial dispute. I've heard that it's better to put the females in with the males, so that they don't feel so territorial. First you want to introduce them on nuetral territory, like a cardboard box that doesn't smell like any of them. Let them play around for a few minutes; you might even want to let them play for a few minutes for 3-4 days in a row, and then put them into the buck's cage. And there will be squeaking. And some scrambling around. They're jsut getting the score settled. Don't worry unless you see blood. Just leave them alone, and you'll get some "happy" mice

Oops :shock: I've been reading lots about mice in general and breeding but never read which cage to introduce them into! I've got a spare cage so i'll try introducing them in that for a few days

Okay I introduced them last night in my spare cage, which had just been cleaned again.

There was no fighting but the male kept trying to get at the females mouth? Kind of like he was trying to steal her food, but she didn't have any :lol:
