gerbilies!!! Apart from mice, gerbils are my favourite small pet. I did`nt replace my boys when they passed and boy do I miss them so much. Gerbils are such funny, cheeky characters and I would have a pair again in a heartbeat if I could guarantee they would have scent gland tumours or tooth problems!.....Or de-clans!!!

these are my first ones for quite a while, but i used to have a shed full of all different colours.

never had any health problems with them at all though, not a manky tooth or dodgy scent gland anywhere.
i do mix my own food up and they have good hay for nibbling on and making giant nest with, so that might be keeping their teeth good.

the silver gerbil is getting rounder now too :)

Oh my goodness I`m going weak at the knees! I miss my gerbilies so much. The agouti colouring is lovely. I see there is a little honey coloured baby in there? My Barney was this colour. So pretty. I love the pied colourings where the gerbils have white collars or white stripes down their faces and a white tail tip! I love that.

Do you just breed small scale sarahsnake? Do you sell the little ones? All my past gerbils were rescues/rehomes and my last two boys sadly had tooth problems. One was totally my fault for using one of those multi-coloured hamster play runs and he chewed the bars and pulled away too fast and slackened a tooth. :( Poor wee man was never right after that and I had to keep visiting my vet for tooth trims every month. It was too stressful for my biggest gerbil and a few days after having his teeth done, he took very ill and died. I blamed my vet for scruffing him too hard (gerbils should`nt be scruffed  ) but the only other way would have been to put them under light anasthetic and either way, it would still have been stressful for the little guys.

Anyway I`m rambling... I would love gerbils again one day. I don`t know if that will ever happen, but I do know that I would never allow them near an barred surfaces or anything they could injure their teeth on.

How many gerbils do you have? :)

these are my first gerbilies for years, i used to breed them a lot in black, dove, siamese, bermese, silver agouti, white and argente in both solids and white spots.
i got the white spots really heavily marked after a lot of selective breeding, so they looked more like roans with the big collars and head markings.

i have 4 adults and these are my first babies,
mom is argente as are 2 of hte babies, and dad is agouti like the other 5, some of these will be looking for new homes once they`re ready, i cant keep them all!

i used to keep mine in pairs in wire cages and never had a problem from it, i think you were perhaps unlucky?
mine used to spend all their time re-arranging their houses and making massive hay nests, and i didnt have them bar-biting or nose rubbing at all.

Yes, I almost certanly was unlucky. I knew one lad had an `accident` with the barred hamster play pen, but my bigger lad.....well he just started getting frustrated at not being able to chew a toilet roll tube and when my vet checked his teeth, that`s when we discovered one of his lower teeth was very slack. He may have been stressed by the clipping, or got infection into his gum or a combination of both. So sad because both boys were fabulous characters and I think about them all the time.

I would have gerbils again in a heartbeat if I thought they would`nt get tooth injuries or abnormalities. I just would`nt have the same quality time to spend hand feeding. It took a lot of nursing and time spent with them. Yet I kept gerbils many moons before that when I was younger and even had an accidental litter and had no problems at all. So I guess it was fate.

I see so many gerbils looking for homes and would love to have them, but I know it would be heart ruling head!
