Being able to select a forum user and see all the threads they have created would be good - it would make it easier to find a thread if you know who wrote it but not when!! A forum I am on has that option alongisde the option to view all a users posts and the option to see all their threads and it makes it so much easier! I also really like geordiesmice's suggestion :)

I'd love to see a gallery of good representations of all the standard, provisional, and unstandardized colors, markings and coat types. It wouldn't need to be as comprehensive as the Finnmouse Breeding pages, I just think it wold be a nice thing to have in this forum. And if folks who know how to breed those colors want to write up a little something, that might be nice as well.

I think this topic has been mentioned before, Which is why the BIS NMC thread was started. Slowly the top breeders in the UK have been adding pictures of their winning mice and explaining about the variety. Hopefully in time we will have a definitive list of threads.

Is there more you would like to see in these threads?

I know every variety isn't mentioned yet, but will only be a matter of time.

geordiesmice if you are trying to breed to standard, then i am taking it that its NMC standards you are trying to breed to. Are you a member? if you are then you have the standards guide, also the only true way in the NMC to know whether you are breeding towards the correct definition of the standard is on the show bench. Its really hard to explain the value of showing your mice ; so sorry if i do not explain very well. But from experience it has helped me immensly.

hope that doesn't detract from you guys points, because they are excellent additions to the forum. also sorry to leave out the american view on this, as i am in the UK.

I've tried that and it gives a list of all posts from a user. I was talking about adding the option to show all threads - not all the posts :) For instance, if I was to say want to read Jack Garcia's threads on Red mice, instead of having to do a search across the entire forum or having to "search all user's posts" I could select his profile and click on "view all threads created by this user" to see his threads and be able to quickly find the threads about Red mice :) It works great on the other forum I'm on as if you have a member who posts hundred of times a day but only creates a thread every once in a while you can find what you need quickly and without spending the full day trudging through all the posts

ok

before heading off into altering the boards code! :)

here is another way of doing what you may want

Go to 'Search' , Enter the author's name, select "First post of topics only", select results as topics, and click search.

think that does it. if not let me know.

Ah, it does do it and thanks :D :D :) But as far as I can check it only seems to be showing results for topics in the last 4 to 5 months :(

The representations of colors and fur types don't have to all be champions, IMHO. They could be just good representations of the color, maybe with the disclaimer that they are not necessarily representations of good body type.

Sorry if I`m being blind  , but do we have a section purely for `Pet`mouse keepers, rather than actual breeding mice? I know many of the categories like Health and Help etc could be seen as being for all mice in general, but sometimes pet talk can get crossed over into breeding talk and while one person is asking for example about which cage to keep their mice in, you will get some members saying use a small plastic tub/rub and some (like me) saying no, use this barred cage. So the poster might get a little comfused about keeping mice as if they were breeding them, or housing them as pets, where they should have adequate spacing which is not the same as keeping a few does in a breeding tank.

So my suggestion would be to have a section titled " A section for pet mouse keepers only"? Not for Breeding talk. Or something along those lines. It would give pet mouse keepers a place to talk about the needs of their pet mice without stumbling into sections that may be more for breeders to discuss their mices` needs like breeding, showing, culling that sort of thing.

The section should be `open` to everyone though not just pet owners. Much like the rest of the forum is with the exception of the culling section, which quite rightly is kept private unless you have a desire to be part of it.

I think this would be a nice opportunity for THIS forum to add-on a fancy mouse `pet section`, which seems to be lost these days since Allaboutmice went down and has`nt re-appeared. It would extend this forum to reach out to pet mouse owners and probably gain more members as a result.

I like this idea, is there any other sections that you would like to be included? I suppose there could be sub categorises such as housing feeding etc.

I suppose within the actual section you could have much the same categories like:
Health
Diet
Housing For Pet Mice

These would be the three main talking points I would imagine. With a pet mouse section, it could be kept to these three sections, or expanded by adding Chat and Photos or Obituaries etc... But the three main categories would be a start! :) So anyone joining would see that there is a pet keepers section if they did`nt want to be part of the breeding talk. This would cover both sides of the coin really. A breeders forum that also incorporates a pet keepers forum within. Best of both worlds really! Cut out the middle man so to speak! Why join one forum when you can have both on the one site? ;)

Shiprat yes, those three categories sound good. It`s easy to read and stops people like myself from wandering into sections that don`t really concern me, like showing or exhibition breeding. Hobby breeding is also a fine example because hobby breeders supply people like me with pet mice, while the mice they breed would`nt be classed as top show class standards. So they too would have their own section where they could discuss the mice they breed without upsetting the high standard breeders.

Exhibition section would have

upcoming shows
Breeding Mice for sale could be moved to Exhibition part
Other Mice for Sale moved to hobby breeding

This would be a major overhaul of the structure of the forum and would need proper consultation with admin, mods and members.

Oh definately. It would be categorising each section into it`s own and anyone visiting or joining will be able to determine which section suits their needs the most, but they can also post in the other sections aswell just as we do now. Hobby breeders for example might post in the pet section and vica versa, while the purists show breeders can also add their influence to the hobbyists, even though the hobby breeders don`t have the same ambitions or examples of stock.

While there are not many mouse forums as such, there is`nt one (not that I have came across anyway) that have split categories like this. They are either based around mice in general (like the US Funmouse forum/website) or solely breeding forums ( like this one) or small animal pet forums. Allaboutmice was a good example of a `pet` mouse forum, yet breeding talk was discouraged on there all the time, so prevented hobby breeders for example from joining because they could`nt ask breeding questions or put up baby mice for sale as they were seen to be from `planned litters`, rather than rescue mice. So there was a bit of prejudice there in regards breeding. This idea would allow hobby breeders and pet keepers to talk to one another between the sections but also have the freedom to browse the whole forum at the same time and read what other members are doing. The pet mouse section need not be large at all. It could just be as stated above with the Health, Diet and Environment sections on their own. These (apart from the health section) would vary from the diet and environments that breeders might use for example.

Just an idea, but worth considering.
