my mousey Meesa has passed away. She's just given birth to a litter of 10 along side her mate from a young age Dakota. I'd bred them both at the same time in order to let them share bringing up the babies, they'd been getting extra suppliments etc and she looked in great condition so I don't know what happened. Both girls seemed to really be thriving much better than when I only had one mum in on here own with a litter of 13.

Maybe she just wasn't meant for this world, she was the most stunning mouse though...

She leaves behind her 10 babies so Dakota has those to look after plus her own 10 babies, am now a bit worried that Dakota won't be able to cope with such a large number. in future I think I may just stick to one litter at a time but then this may have just been one of those things.

Anything I can do to help Dakota with these babies?

RIP Meesa, you were a little darling and you will always have a place in my heart <3

Just let things settle dear, poor thing...definitely not something that you could have prepared for. Perhaps you could foster a few with supplements if the strange on the mom seems apparent. Very rare occurrence...so sorry...

Sorry I didn't say in my previous post, these 2 girls had been living together before they were mated to the same buck, and have been together through pregnancy. Dakota's litter are currently 11 days old and Meesa's are 10 days old so Dakota is looking after them ok, I just worry that it will be a strain on her body with all those mouths to feed. I will try and supplement the babies to help her out.

Thanks for all your kind words and suggestions :)
