My family raises guide dogs for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, a training school based in New York. I started when I was fifteen, and my first puppy was Wesley, a beautiful black lab. He's with ATF (Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms) now, sniffing for explosives on the Canadian border. Since Wesley, my family has raised Kendall, Indy, Chris, and Crawford. They've all been black labrador males...UNTIL NOW!!!

Meet Anka, our first female, and out first German Shepherd.

aww really nice you must be very proud of yourself and your dogs a great service you provide.
I just like to think of it as getting a new puppy every year and a half! ;-)
Awwwwwwwwwwwww! :love :love1 She's got a mischievous face like my girl
We have each puppy from about 8 weeks to 18 months, though Anka is slightly older, about 13 weeks.
So, the dogs go through socialization with us for a year and a half, then have to pass an In for Training test to qualify for further training in harness. Then they're in harness training for another year, maybe slightly longer!
I hate being away at school while Mom's got a sweet puppy at home. :-(
She is gorgeous! What a great role you have.

I had 2 working spaniel pups for socialization before gun training; it was great fun but hard to let them go.
Shes beautiful, iv always wanted to do this. Help bring the pups up before they go off to do really important jobs.
Its wonderful what you do, do you find it hard when they leave?
We usually apply to get another puppy the same week that our older dog leaves, so that we're so busy we don't have time to be sad!
