Ive got 4 females, 2 i will be using to try to breed fox's and the other 2 will be breeding for pinkies for snakes. Would it be too stressfull for a female to lose there whole litter?
i was thinking about breeding all at the same time so all would be due around the same time so i could cull the litters from the snake pinkie females and try to foster some of the babies from the fox project females to them so they could raise some babies. Would this work?

Thanks for the help

I've wondered about this too... I don't personally breed feeders but they are bred where I work. I've always wondered how the mommas handle losing an entire litter. I'm interested to see what replies you get. :) Sorry I couldn't be of any help, though.

its very possible, though the timings need to be right, breed the keepers about a week before the feeders, then they will throw there litter first, once the feeders throw there litter and your ready to cull, just rub the foster babys in the smell of the nest of the foster mum and cross your fingers. I've not done this to cull whole litters before, but i have done this, this week to a doe who desided her own litter tasted good, i put 4 older buck babys (older by 3 days) under her and shes feeding them fine.

thanks guys, i dont want the feeder girls getting stressed and wasnt sure if fostering would work. They are due either this week or next i think but i plan to keep 2 females from the feeders as a gift for a student who had 4 older girls from me not long ago who has lost 2.

i put two does in to litter together now, as i was wondering the same thing, and i wasnt sure wether the doe i took the pinkies off would get mastitis if i took them all.
this way she can help feed the other does litter....

thats not a bad idea sarahsnake, i was planning to keep the feeder group and my fox project group seperate but there should be enough space for them all to live tougher if i breed them on diffrent days so i dont mix up the litters. they use to all live tougher but split them into pairs so i didnt end up feeding my FP babies.
