Chocolate self normal coat

Ok

it seems there are a lack of Chocolate self mice available, so i am setting myself the task of breeding a line.

I have a chocolate tan, quite good type, not the best chocolate colour, she has been mated with a pretty decent black buck. so i should get chocolates.

i'll have to clean out the tan and the black, but i'll just hammer my way throught the generations to see how it goes.

i'll keep updating.

Does the black carry chocolate, then?

I have noticed that chocolate self is one of those varieties not many people do well (or at all). I often wonder why that is...
Im planning on working on a chocolate line, just havent gotten around to it.
I have 1 chocolate doe, but have several that should carry chocolate.

Keep us updated :)
sorry jack,

i got that wrong

no idea what the black carries these mice came from rescue and had been in the tank together when i picked them up, the doe obviously pregnant.

ok so i know i need to get the tan and the B out of the line.

so i might not get a chocolate in the first generation, in fact highly unlikely! but if i breed a son back with mum i should get chocolates?

i'm confused and need help lolz!

just read this from the finnish site and got my hopes up!

I guess

Hehe...yes, the black needs to carry chocolate for you to get chocolate from this paring. Cross a black baby back to the chocolate parent (or cross two siblings) and you will have chocolate. :)
I bred 2 siblings together and bred one of the babies back to the doe to get my chocolates.

hehe nice one Jack, how do i get tan outy of the line,

and getting tan out of the line?
Tan, when bred to a self, will produce either a) 50% tan babies (if the tan parent is at/a) or b) 100% tan babies (if the tan parent is at/at).

In the case of a), you're there already. In the case of b), use one of the tan babies and breed it to a self, and you'll get self babies. :)
She is at/a because she had already had a litter that i saw and not all were tan.

so i should breed self siblings to get chocolate self. :)
Yep, that's what I'd do! :)
excellent. She looks like she is about to drop any minute as well.

here comes the chocolate!
