hi, i had all intenstions of keeping breeding pair of each colour that i wanted but have since found out it is not a good idea to keep males together, so i was thinking of having more females than males, but what i would like to know is, if i was to put say.......... a dove tan male to a rump white female, would the litter be some dove tan and some rumpwhite, or would i not be able to tell as it would be a mixture of many diffrent colours, eg. no dove tans and no rumpwhites, but many brokens ect.

you would get some rump whites.Other colours would depend on the parentage of the rumpwhite. An exhibition dove tan is likely to be pure bred,a rump white will have all sorts in its background. You can't breed mice for showing like this. You might get a rumpwhite out of this pairing that could be shown but none of the others produced would be any good. With the amount of cages you have you will only be able to breed one variety to show standard. Also,I saw your other add on rfuk.Mice from hobby /pet breeders will not produce mice that you can show, you will be wasting your money and hairless can't be shown so you can drop them from your wanted list unless you want to keep them as pets.

I have read your post about not wanting to cull.Black eyed creams would be a good choice for you.Large, docile and don't breed excessively.Best not to have a marked variety, there are many unusable ones born which leaves a problem of finding homes if you aren't culling.
