Hi :)

just doing my research before venturing out to get my first mice

very excited!

I'm in london, UK and also looking out for a breeder fairly nearby to buy from so any suggestions or offers would be most welcome

I'm really interested in long haired (paticularly chocolate tan), abysinnian and astrex/texel, herefords are also beautiful!

i'd really like to get show (or show quality) mice rather than who knows what bred pet mice from a shop and would prefer to get youngsters than established adults. i think i'd like to begin with a pair or trio of females (possibly adding a male into the mix if i venture into breeding)

i wonder if anyone can suggest a good quality staple food? (i've been looking at beaphar as i'd been told that was pretty good) pre packaged would be great as i'd be easier to get hold of more, but i'm happy to venture into making up a custom mix if that would be better. I've had hamsters in the past who ate very selectively is that generally a problem with mice?

any advice like i said is very much welcome!

Hi,

Mice in my experience don't tend to be that fussy but of course there could always be an exception to the rule. They love millet but this is a treat. Also they like the occasional monkey nut (pref hidden). I have given my mice a cuttlefish bone, fresh dandelions are good as long as there is no danger of a dog peeing on it! lol. Sometimes I give them a box of fresh cress if i see it (as it is without the packaging) also egg biscuits are another food they love. Hope this helps - even if its a little bit ....
